This feature request is being sponsored and will be released in the coming days as an hotfix for 2.5.

Nicolas Giard: Very excited for this feature. Thanks to you and the sponsor!

Nicolas Giard: nice! This is going to be a great help in formatting some pages! Thanks for all the hard work!

Nicolas Giard: I see this update allows to manually convert a page to a different editor.
Is there going to be a feature to switch editors on the fly so that pages don’t have to be manually converted back and forth?
Nicolas Giard
just_insane: That's not possible as they are in completely different formats.
just_insane
Nicolas Giard: Ah, I was hoping to see something more along the lines of this PR.
As other comments have said, making the WYSIWYG editor more like GitHub’s editor would be appreciated, as it is markdown on the backend.
The feature differences between the current editors is also an annoyance at times, which is what I was hoping this would resolve.
Otto Berger
Nicolas Giard: right. Why use different formats in the first place? The source should always be only markdown. But should offer a visual editor for the markdown.
Or maybe do some magic like Mediawiki does with their visual editor? 🙂
Nicolas Giard
Otto Berger: You assume everybody uses markdown or wants to use markdown which is simply not the case.
Otto Berger
Nicolas Giard: I guess you are right. I am probably too used to other wikis (Dokuwiki, Mediawiki) which either invent their own markup for the source of articles or choose a existing one like markdown.
I‘m still new to wiki.js. Does this mean that the source of pages are stored as html with the visual editor and when using markdown editor they are stored as markdown?
Nicolas Giard
Otto Berger: correct
Otto Berger
I see it's planned now. may I ask for when or what version? 3.0? or a alter3.X? 4.0?
Nicolas Giard
Otto Berger: 3.0
Otto Berger
Nicolas Giard: it US really awesome the conversion between formats comes now earlier through a hotfix. Thanks to the generous sponsor!
But let’s maybe leave this feature request open and not mark it as completed. Reason is that I believe what really was requested here is a way to simply be able to switch between markdown and the visual editor at any time and on the fly.
Do you think this is still possible for 3.0 or maybe a later version or will this never going to happen?
Thanks for your hard and beautiful work!

I'm involved in a project right now where the ability to change between visual editor and markdown or html would make a huge difference for us. We have contributors at various levels when it comes to coding pages, so having the ability for someone to create a page in one editor and another to edit in another editor would be very welcome. I agree with others here, this should be a given. Any progress on this functionality?

At very least some warning about being stuck with your choice of editor when creating the page ...
Jordan Dayton
David Robert Lewis: Is this what you are asking for?
Jim Bridger
I'd prefer to just be able to force users to use a specific one, rather than let them choose.

It looks like this is being worked on... https://github.com/Requarks/wiki/pull/2190
I don't have any idea of an ETA. Do you have any idea Regev Brody? Great work on this, btw!
Just curious... how difficult would it be to add a button to the WYSIWYG so that you can toggle, with one-click, between html and WYSIWYG views?
Regev Brody
Jordan Dayton: thanks! @NGPixel is in control of ETA and I can't get a response from him. About what you are asking should be fairly simple and can be achieved in a different feature request as it is not directly correlated to this one

Yes, please. Even simply editing the source would be useful. I can appreciate that if the underlying page is html v markdown, switching from WYSIWYG to markdown editing is complicated. However, I can
view
the source--which has helped me identify some formatting errors--but I can't edit the source, which would be the easiest fix for this situation.Jordan Dayton
Joe Andrieu: Yes, I'm with you!
We keep running into walls b/c each of the three editors WYSIWYG/html/markdown all have pros/cons.
If we could just have the ability to "view/edit source html" via the WYSIWYG, that would be perfect. This would allow for the fine tuning we need, like adding custom styles, etc.
Maxime Chambonnet
Jordan Dayton: would be neat... also contributing directly to ckeditor repo is a sensitive way to go.
Interesting Stuff
This is a crucial functionality imo.
