It would be great if images and docs or generally attachements could (optionally) be uploaded/managed within the repo structure of the pages instead of a dedicated "uploads" folder where they're missing their context.

i would love to have this Feature.
I have a very big wiki (over the years)
my structure (which i cant use for wikijs now)
as a workaround i created the same structure in "uploads"
but thats not the best solution and i cant pick images cause no subfolders are shown in "uploads".
but its working.
my structure which i would love to use again:
Wiki
-- projects
--- git
---- img
----- image1.png
----- image2.png
---- install.md
---- usage.md

WBison: you're right, that would be better … or even something like this:
repo/
first-page.md
